Fine Art

All of Nancy's photographs are meticulously printed by her husband, Carlo Scanagatta.

Born in Italy, Carlo has a degree in Foreign languages and Literatures from the University of Padua. A typically Italian taste for beauty, his studies of the arts, and the opportunity to learn directly from Nancy the skills of darkroom printing stimulated his visual imagination to use and manipulate her negatives and produce his own series of images. "By composing phenomena, by offering scenarios and situations," says Carlo, "art presents mind with an opportunity to explore its boundaries, on a cognitive as well as psychological and physiological level. A work of art, like any other daily occurrence, stimulates a response that, if analyzed carefully, can lead to a better comprehension of personality and reality as a whole."

Departing from Nancy's exquisitely classic taste, Carlo has introduced in his work a number of image-altering techniques such as collage, double-negative exposure, photograms, cold and warm tone high-contrast tonalities, and extreme cropping. Aware that mind's perception and understanding of phenomena is limited by sensorial, cultural and psychological conditions, he believes that art promotes self reflection and awareness. His prints are intended as visual hints attempting to bring a viewer beyond his limitations. The result of his search is the great variety of artistic expressions that stretches across genres and underlies Carlo's innovative impulse.
